Millwall
Councillor to lead Tory campaign for City Hall
Shirley Houghton is the new Conservative
hopeful in Lambeth and Southwark. Local Conservative members across the two
boroughs met to select Shirley as their candidate for the 2008 GLA elections.
Shirley said, "I am thrilled to be given
the chance to work with our teams of local councillors and members in these two
boroughs and look forward to busy months ahead. The way London is governed
affects all our lives and pockets. The Mayor and his Labour chums in City Hall
are not only failing the people of Lambeth and Southwark, they are failing the
whole of our great city."
Shirley is a Chartered Accountant and a
councillor for Millwall Ward on the Isle of Dogs.
Cllr John Whelan, Conservative Group Leader
on Lambeth Council said, "Shirley has demonstrated that she has the energy and
drive to get out and tackle injustice, coupled with an interest in people that
makes her the ideal champion for local residents in their battle for a better
London. We look forward to working with her over the coming months."
Shirley also said, "Only the Conservatives
can challenge, and beat, Labour in the London elections next year. Our time has
come, and our duty is to deliver a better alternative for local people.” |
