Mayor Backpedals over Bike
Licensing
After a
concerted effort by Conservative GLA members, the Mayor of
London backed down on plans for a costly, unworkable and
pointless licensing system for bikes. Said Clapham campaigner
Bernard Gentry, “What on earth was he thinking? It would have
been one of the Megalomaniac Mayor’s most crackpot schemes: how
could London have different regulations from the rest of the
country?. I’m delighted Conservative pressure stopped it.” The
Met Police also breathed a sigh of relief, as they were saved
from yet another scheme destined to take them away from fighting
crime! |
