Labour's Parking Blitz -
Huge Increase in Tickets Issued
Labours claims
about making parking fairer were left in tatters after Lambeth
Council officers released figures showing a huge increase in the
number of tickets issued in the first four months of 2007.
Over
thirteen thousand more tickets were issued in that period
compared with the corresponding period in 2006 with over nine
thousand extra tickets being issued as a result of CCTV. This
follows the Labour council’s decision to again start using the
cameras in Wandsworth Road to issue tickets, something the
previous Conservative/Lib Dem administration had stopped.
“The
figures speak for themselves” said former Lambeth Councillor
Bernard Gentry. “They said they would make parking fairer yet
all they have done is persecute residents with even more
draconian parking enforcement. They should be ashamed of
themselves.” |
